Gift Ideas Using Essential Oils

Why give your friend yet another overly scented candle from that shop in the mall when you could give her the gift of health?  The gift ideas below may take a bit of craftiness and time on your part – especially if you are not usually a DIY person – but the benefits and knowledge can last a lifetime.

spa-at-home gift set

Make the two following recipes and gift wrap it or place it in a cute gift bag along with one container of doTERRA Spa, Hand, & Body Lotion.

Bath Salts

Perfect for a grandmother, mother, sister, friend, or other female friend, these bath salts can be a wonderful gift to those who maybe need a little help relaxing or don’t usually take the time to pamper themselves.  They can have a “spa day at home” with the help of your handmade gift and perhaps a CD of relaxation music.  Make homemade bath salts by mixing 1 cup of Epsom salt with 10 drops of your choice of essential oils or essential oil blends.  Put the bath salts into a sealed jar and tie on a tag that explains the benefits of the oil or oil blend that you chose.  A popular choice for essential oil for bath salts is lavender, due to its calming properties and how great it is for skin.  From doTERRABlog.com.

Sugar Scrub

Here’s a “sweet” idea to give a special someone in your life

Along with the bath salts listed above, this homemade sugar scrub is perfect for continuing the “spa at home” gift.  The scrub only requires 3 ingredients and can make enough for at least 3 – 5 applications, depending on how much you use.

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil (approximately an entire, full bottle from doTERRA)
  • 10 – 12 drops of your favorite doTERRA oil or oil blend

Mix the sugar and fractionated coconut oil together in a medium mixing bowl.  Add 10 – 12 drops of oil or oil blend and stir.  Rub the mixture on hands and feet, especially paying attention to any dry spots (could be used on elbows and knees, as well).  Rinse hands and pat dry.  They should follow the exfoliating scrub with a lotion – doTERRA’s Spa Hand & Body Lotion is a great option as it is unscented so the scent of the oil or oil blend in the scrub will remain a nice fragrance.  Give the sugar scrub in an air-tight container. Recipe is from doTERRABlog.com.

Essential oil options can be Lavender + Peppermint, Rosemary + Peppermint, Wild Orange + Peppermint, or Citrus Bliss.

Hot Cocoa Gift Set

A special treat for a special friend in the cool, winter months.

This gift set is super easy to put together and will be very much appreciated by the recipient.  Find a cute, festive coffee mug (some can even be found in the dollar store) and put a couple packets of hot cocoa mix inside along with peppermint and cinnamon.  doTERRABlog.com offered a printable recipe card that you can place inside of the mug – which gives the recipe for making the hot cocoa from “scratch,” meaning from cocoa powder and water, along with a few other ingredients.  You may also want to put a nice Christmas card with information about peppermint and cinnamon inside.

Cinnamon Ornaments

A doTERRA spin on a classic Christmas tradition – Great to make yourself and give as a gift, otherwise you can children involved for a gift for their favorite aunt, uncle, or grandparent.

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.  Mix 2 cups applesauce, 2 cups ground cinnamon, and 15 drops of doTERRA essential oils together until it forms a ball.  I would recommend cinnamon or Holiday Joy for the oil to use.  Take out the dough ball and roll it out on parchment paper that has been sprinkled with ground cinnamon until 1/4 – 1/3″ thick.  Consider rolling out the dough in stages if you don’t have a lot of workspace in your kitchen.  Cut out your Christmas ornaments with candy cane, star, gingerbread, and tree shaped cookie cutter.  Transfer the ornaments to a cookie sheet and poke a hole near the top (at least 1/4 – 1/2″ down) with an end of a straw (this is where you will tie a piece of ribbon or yarn through).  Put ornaments in oven for 2.5 hours or until ornaments are dry and then transfer them to a wire rack.  Once cooled and dry, put ribbon, yarn, or string through the holes and tie.  Hang your ornaments on the tree or place them carefully into a gift box of bag.  Another idea is to hang one in the car.  When storing the ornaments, place them into an airtight container and be sure to put it somewhere safe.  You can always “recharge” the scent by putting 1 – 2 drops of the oil that you used on to the ornament.  (doTERRABlog.com)

Athlete’s Gift Basket

From doTERRABlog.com comes a great idea for the swimmer, cyclist, or athlete in your life, consider putting together a small gift bag or basket with the following items:

  • Water Bottle – a glass or metal one, so they can use doTERRA oils in their water
  • Deep Blue Rub, essential oil blend, or roll-on – great for sore muscles, they can quickly apply it after a contest or a moderate workout – or whenever needed
  • Energy Bars – for refueling when they are on the go
